DADRA AND NAGAR HAVELI
Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a Union Territory on the
west coast of India to the north of the city of Mumbai.
It is richly endowed with nature's bounty. It is a land
of spell-binding beauty and houses lush green forests,
winding rivers, unimaginable waterfronts and distant
dotting mountain ranges. Dadra and Nagar Haveli is located
on the western side of the foot hills of western ghats
and has an undulating terrain. Forty percent of the
total geographical area of 491 sq. kms is covered with
forests and thus offers it a look of woodland. The Union
Territory has a population of 2.20 lakh as per the 2001
census, out of which, tribals form a major chunk of
62 percent.

Roadways
The total length of roads in the territory is 580 km
of which 545.45 is surfaced road. 70 out of 72 villages
are connected by all weather roads. Four laning of the
road to Silvassa from Athal, Piparia and Masat is under
progress. The Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli
is almost touching Mumbai-Baroda-Delhi National Highway
No8 (Western Express Highway). Silvassa is about 14
Kms from Bhilad & 18 Kms from Vapi.
Railways
The nearest Railway station is Vapi on Western Railway
All major Mail/Express trains are available at Vapi
including August Kranti Rajdhani, Satabdi, Ahinsa, Karnavati
etc.
Social Infrastructure
Education
Two hundred and fifteen schools including middle, secondary
and higher secondary schools, fifteen social welfare
hostels, ten libraries, one ITI and one college.
Medical and Health
There is one civil hospital at Silvassa, one community
health centre, three dispensaries, one mobile health
dispensary and thirty-six sub centres.

Overall, the industrial scenario of the territory is
being lead by:
- Textile sector: The
units in the textile sector are engaged in spinning
and processing. Processing includes texturising, twisting,
weaving and knitting activities.
- Paper: The units
in this sector are engaged in the manufacturing of
corrugated paper boxes, sheets, rolls and paper tubes.
- Tourism: In order
to boost the tourism activity in the tourism sector,
Omnibus Industrial Development Corporation (OIDC)
has taken up many ambitious projects.
- Agriculture: Agriculture
is the major occupation of the people of the region
with paddy rice and millet being the most important
crops being cultivated.
- Plastics: Main activity
is injection and blow moulded articles, includes industrial
as well domestic household products, furniture etc.
